Two boys charged with robbing mentally disabled teen

Attack on teen

Two boys accused of assaulting and stealing the shoes off a teen with mental disabilities last month in Henderson were arrested this afternoon.

The suspects, ages 14 and 15, allegedly followed the 16-year-old victim on Sept. 28 as he walked through a shopping center at the 2200 block of North Green Valley Parkway. When the victim was standing between two businesses, the two boys allegedly grabbed him, punched him in the face and threatened him before taking his shoes, hat and cellphone.

Henderson Police detectives tracked the suspects down with the help of witnesses, who told officers the boys ran toward a nearby apartment complex.

The 14-year-old Henderson boy was arrested at his home and the 15-year-old boy was found at Silverado High School in Las Vegas. They have both been placed in a juvenile detention facility.

One of the suspects admitted to the robbery, authorities said. Both suspects were seen on surveillance video moments before the incident in the shopping center.

Police did not release the names of the suspects or their mug shots because they have been charged as juveniles.
