Las Vegan competing in Lake Mead triathlon dies

A Las Vegas man who was competing in a triathlon died this morning after his listless body was found in Lake Mead just two days after the area reopened to the public.

A kayaker who was patrolling the event at Boulder Beach discovered the man’s body about 8:55 a.m., said Christie Vanover, a spokeswoman for the Lake Mead Recreational Area.

Rangers and paramedics performed CPR on the man. He was taken to Boulder City Hospital, where he was pronounced dead about 9:30 a.m. He is believed to be in his 50s.

The Clark County Medical Examiner will determine how he died, officials said.

The recreational area was closed for more than two weeks because of the federal government shutdown.
