Driver killed, 2 injured when car slams into tree

A man died and two people were critically injured Monday night when a car speeding down Cheyenne Avenue crashed into a tree, ejecting all three people, Metro Police reported.

Police responded about 11:15 p.m. to the crash, east of Las Vegas Boulevard.

A 26-year-old man from Las Vegas was driving a Ford Mustang with two passengers at a high rate of speed east on Cheyenne when he lost control, police said.

The Mustang slammed into a tree in the parking lot of the Cheyenne Plaza strip shopping mall, ejecting the driver and two passengers from the car, police said.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passengers, a 23-year-old woman and a 25 year-old man, both from Henderson, were transported to University Medical Center in critical condition.
