Wranglers score 45 seconds into overtime, beat Utah again

Jeff May scored the game-winner Wednesday for the Las Vegas Wranglers 45 seconds into overtime at the Utah Grizzlies, scoring on an assist from Carlo Finucci for a 4-3 victory.

Las Vegas (2-0), which beat Utah 4-1 in the season opener last Saturday, continued its domination in the first period by scoring three unanswered goals in the game’s initial 8:07 for what appeared to be an insurmountable 3-0 advantage. Goals were scored by Chris Francis, Nolan Julseth-White and Brian Nugent.

But Utah responded with three unanswered goals of its own, starting by finding the back of the net with five seconds remaining in the first on the power play. The Grizzlies scored twice in the second period to even the score at three, including a short-handed goal.

After a scoreless third, the Wranglers quickly ended the game in overtime. May scored a “bouncing goal,” according to the Wranglers’ Twitter page.

Travis Fullerton made 31 saves for Las Vegas in goal and Finucci had a pair of assists.

Las Vegas returns home to the Orleans Arena Friday to play rival Alaska Aces for three straight days.
