Getting under center

Las Vegas Sun sports reporters Ray Brewer and Case Keefer preview the two biggest games of the week, Desert Pines at Moapa Valley and Green Valley at Canyon Springs. Keefer also takes amusement at Brewer's yearning for the old days before spread offenses overtook the football landscape.

Despite some unexpected ups and downs this season, Mojave will host a home playoff game for the second straight year.

The Rattlers earned that right emphatically Thursday night, smashing the host Pahrump Valley Trojans 49-0. Mojave will play Virgin Valley at home in the first round of the Division 1A postseason next Friday.

Another home playoff game is a major accomplishment for a school that had never gotten the honor through its first 16 years of existence.

All-star running back Ty Flanagan would settle for nothing less, rushing for 143 yards and three touchdowns on 10 carries for the Rattlers against the Trojans. Daijon Williams-Smith also crossed the century mark with 102 yards rushing and a touchdown.

Elijah Smoot and Ivan Perez also scored in the critical game for Mojave.
