Dozens without water after main break

Water woes

A water main break has left more than 50 residents and dozens of businesses without water this afternoon.

Southern Nevada Water Authority spokesman Bronson Mock said the break was reported about 1 p.m. on Eastern Avenue just south of Owens Avenue. Water service was interrupted to about 50 homes, one apartment complex and more than 24 business customers about 4 p.m.

Crews have been excavating around the burst pipe and hope to finish repairing it as early as about 10 p.m.

"A lot of times, dealing with these repairs is a pretty fluid situation," Mock said. "We have some idea of what we need to do, but we won't be sure until we excavate ... and determine what repairs are needed."

It was not immediately clear what caused the water main break.
