Police: Man arrested after 15-minute chase in Las Vegas

A man led a Metro Police detective, a fire department vehicle and a helicopter on a 15-minute chase through the north Las Vegas Valley today before he was finally stopped and arrested, authorities said.

A Metro detective in an unmarked vehicle first noticed the man about 12:25 p.m. swerving across the road near Rancho Boulevard and U.S. 95. The officer activated his emergency lights and attempted to pull the man over, but he refused to stop, Metro spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said.

The man continued to swerve through the lanes and make U-turns, ignoring the Metro detective signalling him to pull over, she said. A Metro helicopter then started following the man, and at one point, a Las Vegas Fire & Rescue vehicle also tracked the vehicle, Meltzer said.

The erratic chase ended about 12:40 p.m. at U.S. 95 and Rainbow Boulevard, but the man continued to resist arrest, fighting patrol officers, Meltzer said. After he was taken into custody and placed in a patrol vehicle, he kicked a window out, she said.
