Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval delivers the State of the State address at the Legislature in Carson City, Nev., on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013.

As Republicans in Washington force the threat of a federal government shutdown over a measure to defund Obamacare, the national party turned to a popular GOP governor to deliver its weekly address.

Enter Gov. Brian Sandoval.

In a six-minute speech, Sandoval argued Washington should take its cues from Nevada.

"We chose a simple approach to state government: it should be a protector of rights and a partner in prosperity," Sandoval said, according to his prepared remarks. “To that end, I fought against excessive tax increases, and instead was able to expand tax exemptions for businesses, and extend tax abatements to encourage businesses to grow. When it comes to growing jobs, it is my responsibility to leave no stone unturned when it comes to getting Nevada working again.

“Can you just imagine what our economy would look like today if Washington would just take that approach?"

The Weekly Republican Address is delivered as a response to President Barack Obama's weekly radio address and is broadcast on YouTube.
