Police: Man returned to Las Vegas in 2010 gang-related shooting

A man wanted in connection with a gang-related shooting that left one person dead three years ago was extradited Sunday to the Clark County Detention Center from Monterey, Calif., Metro Police said.

Police in Las Vegas had been searching for Damien Benoit, 27, since the shooting in April 2010 that killed Deshun Burley.

Benoit was serving jail time in Monterey and was returned to Las Vegas to face charges of murder with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit murder, Metro Police said. He also faces counts of discharging a gun at a structure, vehicle or watercraft, first-degree domestic battery and carrying a concealed weapon without a permit.

According to a Metro Police arrest report, Benoit was a member of the Bloods gang and Burley was a member of the rival Crips gang. The shooting occurred inside a room at the Bargain Motel, 200 S. Eighth Street.

Brandon Bailey, 25, also was charged in connection with the shooting. He is set to stand trial Jan. 24.

Bailey faces one count each of conspiracy to commit murder, murder with the use of a deadly weapon and four counts of discharging a weapon at a structure, vehicle, aircraft or watercraft.
