51s score just one run, still beat Fresno in extras

After nine scoreless innings for both teams, Kirk Nieuwenhuis’ solo home run to start the 10th inning today lifted the Las Vegas 51s to a 1-0 win at the Fresno Grizzlies.

Josh Edgin pitched a scoreless inning to earn his third win of the young season for Las Vegas, and Vic Black recorded the final out for the save.

The teams combined for 17 strikeouts, including eight from Las Vegas starter Daisuke Matsuzaka in seven innings. Each team had just five hits.

Zach Lutz continued his hot hitting to open the season, going 2 for 4 for the 51s. He’s batting .375 with 11 RBIs.

The series continues Sunday in Fresno.
