Couple barricaded in home with their 2 children surrender, police say

Updated Wednesday, April 23, 2014 | 9:16 a.m.

A couple who barricaded themselves inside their home with their two children after losing custody of them surrendered to police Tuesday night after about 10 hours of negotiations, Metro Police said.

The man and woman released the children, ages 9 and 12, unharmed from the home just before midnight and then walked outside to surrender to SWAT officers, police said.

No one was injured, and police do not believe the parents were armed, Metro officer Jose Hernandez said.

The standoff began when the children’s grandparents, who have court-ordered custody of the children, called Metro to report that the children were taken, Metro Lt. Mark Reddon said.

SWAT responded to the home in the 4600 block of Alexander Road, near Las Vegas Boulevard North, and evacuated several homes while officers negotiated with the parents, police said.

Hernandez said the parents were taken into custody, but he could provide no further details.
