Finding Nevada: Searchlight

Steve Marcus

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) talks about Searchlight, Nev. during an interview at his home in Searchlight Monday Jan. 20, 2014.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says he's received threats mailed to his home that he calls "ugly, vile, vulgar."

The Nevada Democrat told reporters Tuesday that nearly all of the threats cite scripture from the Bible. He did not say who the threats came from.

U.S. Capitol police have said they're investigating the mailings.

Reid has criticized Cliven Bundy, the Nevada rancher who has resisted government agents trying to force him to pay over $1 million in overdue fees and penalties for grazing his cattle on federal lands.

Reid said he's spoken to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, FBI Director James Comey and others about Bundy.

He also defended the Bureau of Land Management, which called off a roundup of Bundy's cattle after a confrontation with armed Bundy supporters.
