Police: Passenger was gunned down while car was stopped

Updated Thursday, May 1, 2014 | 10:19 a.m.

A Metro Police investigation indicates a fatal shooting took place Tuesday night near Rancho Drive and Bonanza Road while a driver stopped to check on a tire, according to a report released today.

The victim, Javerian Dontae Stevenson, 22, was a passenger sitting in the vehicle when he was fatally wounded by gunfire. Someone then drove Stevenson to the 2200 block of Dune Drive, near Tonopah Drive and Washington Avenue, after the shooting, where officers responded, police said.

Stevenson had been riding in the vehicle with two other men. Loud bangs alerted the driver to his passenger’s injuries.

The suspect, or possible suspects, remain at large and the motive behind the slaying remains a mystery, police said.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is urged to call Metro Police at 702-828-3521 or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 or at crimestoppersofnv.com.
