An elderly man and woman from Georgia were killed Friday night near the Rio when they were hit in the street by a driver who fled the scene.
The incident occurred around 10:05 p.m. on Valley View Boulevard north of Flamingo Road, Metro Police said. A man, 71, and a woman, 74, were crossing Valley View from east to west outside a crosswalk when a southbound dark-colored Nissan sedan hit them and kept going. Police say the Nissan turned west on Flamingo.
The victims were pronounced dead at the scene, Metro said. Police are still investigating the incident.
They are the 48th and 49th traffic deaths investigated by Metro this year.
