Updated Monday, Aug. 11, 2014 | 10:50 p.m.

A motorcyclist is dead after colliding with a car in the southeast part of the valley today, Metro Police said.

At 2:38 p.m., officers responded to reports of a collision at Russell Road and Lamb Boulevard.

Witnesses and evidence indicate a 2014 Yamaha motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Russell approaching the intersection with Lamb, police said. A 2013 Chevrolet Equinox was turning left from westbound Russell to southbound Lamb when it was hit in the back by the front of the Yamaha.

The motorcyclist, a 25-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet, Alfred Marques, 73, was transported to Sunrise Hospital in unknown condition, police said.

This is the 50th traffic-related fatality in Metro's jurisdiction this year.

The collision remains under investigation.
