2 dead, 3 wounded in northwest Georgia shootings

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. — Northwest Georgia authorities are trying to untangle the details of a violent rampage that left two people dead and three wounded Tuesday when a gunman shot multiple victims at one house, crashed a car into another house, shot the occupant, committed a carjacking, crashed the vehicle and shot himself in the head.

Three people were shot at a house in Cartersville and one was pronounced dead on the scene, Bartow County Sheriff Clark Millsap said. The two others were taken by helicopter to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, about 45 miles southeast of Cartersville.

He said the gunman fled and crashed a car into a house where he kicked in the door in and shot an occupant in the hand.

Millsap said the shooter then carjacked an elderly man and his grandson and crashed their vehicle into a truck. Millsap says the impact caused a fire and the gunman shot himself in the head. Police said neither the man nor child were injured in the carjacking.

The identities of the shooter and victims were not immediately released.

WSB-TV reports authorities are investigating whether the shootings are drug-related. Millsap said the gunman knew his victims.

"Something we don't ever want to see," Millsap said

The Georgia State Patrol is also investigating the incidents.
