The law firm of Republican attorney general candidate Adam Laxalt is condemning the leak of his two-year-old performance review that said he was “a train wreck” who "doesn't even have the basic skill set.”

Laxalt’s law firm, Lewis Roca Rothgerber, said the documents are “confidential” and “not intended for the public,” according to a media release.

The law firm said it was conducting an investigation of the “security breach” and said it does not have a position in the race. The release acknowledged that some of the law partners support Laxalt and others support his Democratic opponent, Secretary of State Ross Miller.

Laxalt started with the firm in 2011, was promoted and took a leave from the practice to run for attorney general earlier this year.

“He made excellent contributions to our firm,” the release said.

Las Vegas political journalist Jon Ralston first published the leaked the documents on Wednesday. The news made for fodder in a campaign where Laxalt is running to be the chief legal counsel in the state.

The documents said his work was “sloppy” and he had “horrible client service toward his partners.”

Laxalt sent out a statement to the media on Thursday, saying that before he started his campaign he represented “Fortune 500 companies, a large Nevada city and some of Nevada’s top job providers and taxpayers.”

He admitted to having trouble transitioning from military life but said he met the challenge “head on.”

Laxalt has never served in an elected position. He moved to Nevada two years ago after serving as a judge advocate general in the Navy. He is the grandson of former U.S. Sen. and Nevada Gov. Paul Laxalt. He is the son of former Sen. Pete Domenici, R-N.M.
