Wars are all about the money

I agree with Vernos Branco’s letter to the Sun (“Thoughts on war, critics and pundits,” Aug. 18) stating that the U.S. shouldn’t be the world’s policeman.

But Mr. Branco, bless his heart, forgets that wars are all about money; so many industries make a ton of money from war.

I’m reminded of a a barber friend of mine in Hartford, Conn., overhearing a customer (a munitions manufacturer) say during the Vietnam War, “God forbid there should be peace, we’d all go broke.”
