Victim critical after being shot several times in the back

Metro Police are investigating a shooting in the northwest Las Vegas Valley that left a person in critical condition late Monday.

Authorities were alerted to a report of shots fired near Torrey Pines Drive and Lake Mead Boulevard at about 8 p.m., Metro Lt. Dave Valenta said.

A group of five people were in a Cadillac heading northbound on Torrey Pines when the car made a U-turn, stopped and all got out, Valenta said. One of the car's occupants shot another three to five times; the group fled in the car and left the victim behind.

The victim, who was able to stagger to a nearby CVS drugstore to seek help, was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition being treated for gunshot wounds in the back, Valenta said.

Metro called in gang detectives to help investigate.
