The Las Vegas 51s will continue to be a New York Mets Triple-A farm team for at least another two years.
Mets General Manager Sandy Alderson and 51s President and COO Don Logan announced jointly Thursday that the teams extended their player development contract through the 2016 season.
Las Vegas won 80 games this season to clinch the Pacific Southern Division title in the Pacific Coast League for a second straight year under manager Wally Backman. The team begins playoffs Sept. 3.
The Las Vegas club has been a Mets affiliate since 2012.
The team was bought last year by Summerlin Las Vegas Baseball Club, an investment group with plans to move the team from city-owned Cashman Stadium downtown to a new stadium to be built in northwest Las Vegas.
