Man arrested in fatal auto-bicycle crash in Henderson

A man accused of leaving the scene of a fatal traffic accident with a bicyclist last month was arrested today, Henderson Police said.

Police say Cesar Gutierrez, 35, hit 43-year-old Mario Regalado with a car Nov. 15 while Regalado was riding a bike near the outside curb in the southbound lanes of Eastern Avenue, near Evansville Avenue.

While other traffic was slowing to pass him, Gutierrez switched lanes and hit Regalado from behind, according to police.

Regalado was transported to St. Rose Dominican Hospitals — Siena Campus, where he was pronounced dead.

Gutierrez is accused of fleeing the scene of the accident and failing to render assistance to the victim or call 911, police said.

Police tracked Gutierrez to an apartment on Gerson Avenue, near H Street and Washington Avenue, where he was arrested about 11:30 a.m.
