Ventura County fire chief named Nevada’s next fire marshal

CARSON CITY – Bob Roper, fire chief for Ventura County, Calif. for 15 years, has been named state fire marshal for Nevada.

Roper, who is now chairman of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, will succeed Pete Anderson who retired in August after serving in the post for ten years and in state service for 22 years.

Roper will take over as administrator of the Division of Forestry whose major duties include battling wetland and forest fires. Maximum salary is $107,465.

The appointment was announced Thursday by Leo Drozdoff, director of the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
