Silencing Ralston would be disservice

I have known Jon Ralston since he first moved to Las Vegas. Over the years, I have been angry with Jon and happy with Jon; I have agreed with him and disagreed with him. I have been provoked by him, antagonized by him and annoyed by him.

I also have been challenged and mentally stimulated by him, and I have learned a great deal from him.

But through it all, I have always appreciated and respected him for what he does for this state and our residents who call Nevada home.

Nevada is a better place to live because of Jon’s participation as an astute observer of the political process. We are better informed on issues that affect our lives because of Jon’s tenacious, thought-provoking observations and insight. He provides a very important public service.

There is no one quite like Jon Ralston. I am dismayed that the new owners of Channel 3 have decided to cancel his show. I sincerely hope Channel 3 reconsiders its decision and reinstates Jon’s show or that another station picks him up before the 2015 legislative session begins. We will all be better informed if he is on the air.

As a recovering public servant and politician, I have seen firsthand what he does and what he has accomplished.

To silence his voice would be a great loss for us all.
