A space heater caused a fire at this house in the 4400 block of Halbert Avenue, near Lamb Boulevard and Bonanza Road, about 6:30 a.m. on Dec. 31, 2014, according to Las Vegas Fire & Rescue officials.

A space heater placed too close to bedroom curtains started a fire that gutted the room and caused about $10,000 damage, Las Vegas Fire & Rescue officials said.

The fire was reported about 6:30 a.m. in the 4400 block of Halbert Avenue, near Lamb Boulevard and Bonanza Road.

The fire spread to a mattress and then the rest of the room, officials said.

The rest of the house sustained smoke damage, officials said. There were no smoke alarms in the single-story house, officials said.

The American Red Cross was assisting two adults, a teen and two younger children, officials said.
