Medical building fire
A fire erupted in the attic of a medical office building on West Sahara Avenue this morning, causing an estimated $225,000 worth of damage.
Las Vegas Fire & Rescue spokesman Tim Szymanski said the blaze broke out about 8:37 a.m. in the Oba Plaza office building, 5300 W. Sahara Ave. An employee at Massage Pro inside the building said she showed up to work and noticed something glowing from beneath a door on the second floor, so she ran out and called 911.
Firefighters quickly put out the small fire and confined the damage to a small portion on the second floor and the attic above. Most of the building was not damaged.
Investigators believe the fire was likely electrical in nature and accidental.
The building is occupied mostly by medical businesses. Because of the damage to the building and to its utility lines, the businesses will likely relocate for several weeks as repairs are made.
