letter to the editor:

Give us the bottom line on energy

I believe most Nevadans like myself would like to use alternative energy as long as it is cost effective, which means: How much does it impact the bottom line cost for our monthly electricity bills? Don’t bother telling us about all the other costs that some study determined are associated with traditional energy production. We Nevadans are bottom-line people.

The plan is simple: Each consumer can chose how much traditional or alternative energy that they want to buy from NV Energy. The company bills each customer based on the cost to produce the type of energy the customer decides to use.

This allows people to get whatever percent of either traditional or alternative they want.

The billing can be easily accomplished by NV Energy, but people would need to commit to a long-term choice of the type of energy they want to use in order for companies to build the proper electric producing facilities. Think of the incentive this could provide to alternative energy companies.
