letter to the editor:

Beck’s many mistakes on Fox

Glenn Beck, formerly a mainstay on the Fox News Channel, recently admitted that he “made an awful lot of mistakes” during his time at Fox and now thinks he played a role in dividing the country. Some of his “mistakes” included calling President Barack Obama a racist, calling the victims of Hurricane Katrina “scumbags,” and saying that he started hating the 9/11 families due to the attention they got.

Beck states that he didn’t realize his many Fox viewers were so fragile. By fragile he means stupid. Unfortunately Fox News relies on the stupidity of its viewers to run up those high ratings it has enjoyed for years. At least one study found that people who watch no news are better informed than people who watch Fox News.

I hope the fact that Beck’s recanting of his years of lies and divisiveness gets through to some Fox viewers. Now if we can just convince Bill O’Reilly that he has won the “war on Christmas” and to quit wasting air time on the subject, and then get Sean Hannity to admit there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, truth in news reporting might just come into vogue again.
