RENO — Police investing the theft of several decorative brass vases from a Reno cemetery have arrested a man accused of trying to sell them for scrap.
Police say 49-year-old David Frayer of Reno has been charged with possession of stolen property after he allegedly tried to sell the cut-up brass pieces on Jan. 16 at a metal recycling yard just east of downtown.
Lt. William Rulla says six vases valued at about $200 each were stolen from northwest Reno's Mountain View Cemetery, where they were used as flower holders at burial markers.
Rulla told the Reno Gazette-Journal on Monday that Frayer claimed someone gave him the vase pieces. But Rulla says detectives found brass shavings on his shirt and cutting equipment in his motel room.
