Ray Smith’s game-high 29 points helped the Las Vegas High basketball team down visiting Basic 84-68 today in the Sunrise Regional quarterfinals.

But if the junior-heavy Wildcats want to advance further in the tournament, coach Jason Wilson says they need a better performance. Las Vegas was just 18 of 36 from the free-throw line, which is a formula for disaster when they face Foothill Thursday in the semifinals.

“We were miserable from the line and got our butts kicked on the boards,” Wilson said.

Patrick Savoy Jr. scored 19 points for Las Vegas, Devon Colley scored 13 and Tyler Bey had 12.
