All of this big talk about raising the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour, a so-called living wage, is ridiculous. Since when is $404 a week before taxes a living wage? It would take you three weeks pay to pay your rent.
It irks me that President Barack Obama and his Democrats have been so browbeaten that they ask for kibbles and bits instead of being bold and demanding at least an $18 an hour minimum wage.
Let the Republicans balk, complain, scream bloody murder, say it’s the end of the world and then settle for maybe $15 an hour.
Until the Democrats and Obama learn how to go big, they will never win. They can start by letting a real heavyweight like Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont do their negotiating. Paul Ryan is a heavyweight in the Republican party, he should have faced a heavyweight when they did that weak budget deal.
