A male passenger died and a driver is in critical condition today after the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a wooden power pole.
Metro Police responded about 1:35 a.m. to the crash on Eastern Avenue, south of Harris Avenue. Evidence and witnesses indicate that a Chevy truck was speeding south on Eastern Avenue when the driver swerved off the west side of the road and into a power pole, police said.
A 31-year-old male passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The 25-year-old male driver was ejected from the vehicle and taken to University Medical Center Trauma with critical injuries, police said.
This is the first traffic fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction for 2014.
