Martin Lomas

An inmate died in a Las Vegas hospital over the weekend while being treated for a medical condition, state prison officials said.

Martin Lomas, 56, died at Valley Hospital on Sunday while serving a sentence for sexual assault and kidnapping. He’d been in the hospital since Friday.

Lomas was convicted in Washoe County and given a sentence of five years to life in prison in 1992. He had been released several times on parole and last returned to prison in November after an arrest in North Las Vegas for drug possession and failure to properly register as a sex offender.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy, prison officials said.

The Nevada Department of Corrections previously reported that another inmate died on Sunday. Officials said Foster Gordon, 86, succumbed to a medical condition at the Regional Medical Facility housed in the Northern Nevada Correctional Center in Carson City.

Gordon had been behind bars since January 2008 after being convicted of sexual assault in Washoe County. He was serving a sentence of 20 years to life behind bars.

Prison officials said the Carson City Coroner’s Office will perform an autopsy for Gordon.
