Joe Downtown: Microbrewery seeks permit to open in old furniture store

It looks like another microbrewery could be headed downtown, this one on Main Street in the Arts District, near Charleston Boulevard.

Hop Nuts Brewery LLC is seeking a special-use permit to operate a tavern at 1120 S. Main St., which used to house a used-furniture store.

City staff have recommended approval of the permit, which would allow the creation of a microbrewery and tavern inside the 5,850-square-foot building. As outlined in documents filed with the application, it would include a 1,770-square-foot lounge and bar, a 639-square-foot microbrewery and a 1,666-square-foot common area.

The application also says Hop Nuts Brewing “hopes to enlighten customers on the process and art form of brewing by hosting classes and forums.”

It would operate 24 hours a day with nightly live music.

It would be the second microbrewery in downtown Las Vegas. Banger Brewing recently opened on the first floor of Neonopolis, at Fremont Street and Las Vegas Boulevard.
