The 9-year-old girl who died from injuries suffered in a rollover accident Wednesday morning on Interstate 15 near downtown was Las Vegas resident Gabriela Casias, according to Clark County Coroner’s Office officials.

The driver — Wendy Carrion of Las Vegas — and six children were transported to University Medical Center, where Casias was pronounced dead, Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Loy Hixson said. A 6-year-old girl suffered critical injuries and remained in critical condition Wednesday night.

Carrion, 22, who was driving a 2002 Ford Explorer, and four other children — ranging from ages 1 to 6 — were treated at the hospital and released, Hixson said. Carrion was the mother of four children in the Explorer and an aunt to the two others, Hixson said.

The single-vehicle accident happened at 8:03 a.m. in the northbound lanes of the interstate. Carrion veered to the left and overcorrected, causing the Explorer to overturn and three occupants without seatbelts to be ejected, Hixson said.

The northbound lanes of I-15 near the accident were closed until about noon Wednesday.
