Five-run seventh inning fuels 51s victory against Salt Lake

The Las Vegas 51s hung on for a 9-8 victory today against visiting Salt Lake after reliever Buddy Carlyle got Salt Lake’s Luis Jimenez to fly out to third base to end the game with the bases loaded.

Las Vegas batted around in the seventh inning to score five runs and take the lead for good. Matt den Dekker had a two-run single, Matt Reynolds walked to force home a run, Andrew Brown had a sacrifice fly RBI and Josh Satin belted an RBI double.

Las Vegas (51-36) scored three runs in the first inning on Wilmer Flores’ three-run home run. But Salt Lake, which had 17 hits, scored three runs in the fourth to take the lead.

Brandon Allen also homered for Las Vegas, and Reynolds and den Dekker each scored a pair of runs.

The 51s hit the road for a seven-game road trip, starting Friday in Albuquerque.
