Floyd Mayweather Jr. took to Twitter today to confirm a Sept. 13 fight against Marcos Maidana at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

It’s a rematch of last May’s controversial fight between the welterweights in which Mayweather earned a hard-fought 117-111, 116-112 and 114-114 majority decision victory.

Most consider the fight the closest Mayweather has come to being defeated in his 46-fight career.

The rematch was expected. The Argentine contender Maidana clearly frustrated Mayweather — in and out of the ring.

“Enough, Floyd,” Maidana said through his translator at the post-fight news conference. “Just give me the (expletive) rematch and we’ll see what’s up.”

Mayweather quickly responded, “We can take it down there right now and he can get it right now. Go ahead and put the ring back up.”

Mayweather refused to give Maidana credit for a good fight in May, fueling the fire for a rematch.

“The toughest wrestling match,” Mayweather said in May when asked if Maidana gave him his toughest fight. “It was totally different. One thing I’m not going to do is lie. Miguel Cotto was a tougher fighter, and he hit harder than him. Canelo hits harder than him. I take nothing away from him, but I could have made this fight a whole lot easier.”
