In response to the July 4 editorial “An extraordinary moment,” it is appalling to me that not one word was mentioned about the Native Americans who occupied the Americas for more than 10,000 years before we pale-skinned immigrants arrived to displace them and claim this continent as our own.
We edged them out of the picture, out of the natural abundance with which they were living in relative harmony.
Breaking free from the tyranny of the British Empire, our forefathers wreaked genocidal tyranny on the tribes that were already in residence on this land, and our government still holds them and their land in thrall.
“All men are created equal”? “An irrefutable case for freedom”? I don’t think so.
