Toddler abducted by her mother found safe

The 3-year-old girl who was abducted by her mother at a family gathering on July 5 has been found, North Las Vegas Police said.

Police found Katies Nevaeh Battle in an apartment at the Budget Suites, 4885 Boulder Highway, around 1 a.m. this morning, police said.

They were tipped off by a security guard who noticed that Battle and her mother, 35-year-old Shelly Mitchell, had been staying in the building.

Battle had been in foster care for the past 18 months after Child Protective Services had taken her away from her parents.

Police believe she was abducted by Mitchell, her biological mother, after her foster mother took Battle to her biological father's apartment for a scheduled visit.

Battle appeared to be in good health when she was found, police said. She is now in the custody of Child Protective Services.

Mitchell was arrested and taken to Las Vegas City Jail, where she faces a felony count of parental abduction.
