Bear euthanized for killing goats in Northern Nevada

A black bear has been euthanized for killing goats a second time in Northern Nevada.

Nevada Department of Wildlife spokesman Chris Healy said the 6-year-old male bear was trapped and killed Friday after punching a hole in the side of a small Genoa barn and killing two goats this past week.

He says the same bear was responsible for killing four goats in Genoa in April.

The bear wore an identifying ear tag it received in March 2013 when it was captured near a lambing area in Jacks Valley, just north of Genoa.

After the bear was trapped following the earlier killing, it was released back into the wild about 80 miles south of Genoa.

Healy said this is the first bear killed this year for depredating livestock. Two bears were euthanized in 2013 for the same reason.
