Pedestrian critically injured crossing street downtown

A man was critically injured after he was hit by a car Monday night while crossing a street in downtown Las Vegas, according to Metro Police.

Anthony Rotondo, 64, was crossing Bonneville Avenue at 6th Street shortly before 10 p.m. as an eastbound Lincoln Town Car was approaching the intersection, police said.

The driver spotted Rotondo and started braking, but he couldn’t stop in time, police said. Rotondo was thrown onto the hood of the car and then onto the road, police said.

Rotondo was transported to University Medical Center, where he was in critical condition, Metro said. Two people in the Lincoln were uninjured.

Metro is investigating the incident.
