Body of missing swimmer recovered at Lake Mead

Authorities recovered the body of a missing Las Vegas swimmer at Lake Mead this evening, National Park Service spokeswoman Christie Vanover said.

Dindo Gavarra, 30, was reported missing at 11:52 a.m. Tuesday after he jumped off a houseboat near Sandy Cove to swim to shore with others, she said. When everyone got to shore, they noticed he was missing.

At about 4 p.m. today, family members searching the area discovered what they thought was a body. Metro Police's Search and Rescue Dive Team recovered Gavarra about 15 feet underwater and 75 feet from shore, Vanover said. He was not wearing a life jacket.

He was the third swimmer to go missing at Lake Mead this week.

On Sunday, a 53-year-old man was reported missing at 11:43 a.m. after he jumped off of a boat to go swimming in Lake Mohave, about 15 miles south of the Hoover Dam, Vanover said. A 25-year-old man was reported missing at 2:21 p.m. near Boulder Islands on Lake Mead.

Both are still missing.
