Vegas Play of the Day: Orioles at Angels

The Play of the Day, which features odds from South Point and a $10,000 starting bankroll, is chugging along with wins in six of its last eight installments.

Back-to-back baseball wins have proven elusive, however, so that serves as today’s focus.

Baltimore Orioles at Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim under 8 runs at even money: $200 to win $200

It was once rare to see Jered Weaver taking the mound with this high of a total at Angel Stadium. The general feeling is that the 31-year-old isn’t quite the ace he was a few years ago, but he’s shown he’s still awfully tough at home this season.

Weaver has a 2.70 ERA at home this season, where he’s held batters to a .208 average. He should look sharp on a night the Angels, which have the second-best record in baseball, need their best performance to avoid surrendering only their second home sweep of the season.

The Angels offense has been uneven since the All-Star break, scoring more than three runs in only one of five games. There’s a fear the streak could snap tonight, but even with that in mind, Weaver could deliver a gem to keep the game under.

It also helps that Anaheim hasn’t scored a run off of Baltimore starter Chris Tillman, though he’s only pitched eight innings against them, since 2009. Although the Orioles are known for their offense, they’ve been a profitable under bet over the course of the season with 54 percent of their games falling short of the total.

Standings: Bern (39-25-1, $14,619), Keefer (31-36, $8,946), Brewer (26-37-3, $3,055)
