51s fall in close game against Reno Aces

The Las Vegas 51s failed to salvage a split in their four-game series with rival Reno Aces on Tuesday night at Cashman Field.

Las Vegas fell 6-5, its third defeat in the series and fifth in the last six games. The 51s led 4-3 after four innings after tagging Aces starter Bo Schultz for runs in consecutive innings.

Zach Lutz, Oscar Quintanilla, Daniel Muro and Rafael Montero drove in the runs. Las Vegas maintained the lead for three innings before Reno got to its bullpen. The Aces scored a couple of runs in the seventh inning off Joel Carreno before taking another from Erik Goeddel in the eighth.

Las Vegas got its first two batters on base in the ninth, but could only get one across the plate on a sacrifice fly from Kai Gronauer.

The 51s open another four-game home series, against the Fresno Grizzlies, at 7:05 p.m. Thursday.
