Cooling stations opening as valley comes under excessive heat watch

With triple-digit temperatures in the area forecast over the next six days, Clark County is preparing aid stations to help people seeking relief from the heat.

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat watch for Sunday and Monday, with high temperatures of around 110 forecast.

Cooling stations are scheduled to be open from Sunday through Tuesday. Cooling stations and their hours of operation are:

• 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Sunday-Tuesday, Islamic Society of Nevada, 4730 East Desert Inn Road, Las Vegas, 702-433-3431

• 6 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Tuesday, Black Mountain Recreation Center, 599 Greenway Road, Henderson, 702-267-4070

• 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Tuesday, Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris Street, 702-267-4060

• 8 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Tuesday, Stupak Community Center, 251 W. Boston Ave., Las Vegas, 702-229-2488

• 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Tuesday, Cambridge Recreation Center, 3930 Cambridge St., Las Vegas, 702-455-7169

• 7 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Tuesday, Pearson Community Center, 1625 W. Carey Ave., Las Vegas, 702-455-1221,

• 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Tuesday, Walnut Recreation Center, 3075 N. Walnut Road, Las Vegas, 702-455-8402

Daytime shelter is available daily during the summer months at these times and locations:

• 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Catholic Charities, 1511 N. Las Vegas Blvd., Las Vegas, (for men) .

• 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Salvation Army, 31 W. Owens Ave., North Las Vegas, (for adults) .

• 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Shade Tree, 1 W. Owens Ave., North Las Vegas, (for women and children).
