With Metro Police reeling after the shooting deaths of two officers Sunday, many Las Vegas residents are wondering what they can do to support the department.
Sheriff Doug Gillespie said today that the simplest way is to take a few moments to speak with Metro officers out on patrol.
“I know people always think, ‘How do you come up with the right words?’” Gillespie said. “You never do, but just your presence and the fact that you’ve offered them goes a long way.”
People wishing to send condolences to the families of the slain officers can email their messages to Metro’s Public Information Office. The messages will be collected and forwarded to the families, Gillespie said.
People wishing to financially support the families are encouraged to give to the Injured Police Officer Fund.
The nonprofit group has set up accounts at Wells Fargo Bank and Nevada State Bank to collect donations to support the families.
