Firefighters rescue pets from burning house

House Fire

Firefighters evacuated three people from a burning house today near UNLV and then rescued 11 of their 13 pets from the blaze.

Emergency dispatchers received a call about 2:05 a.m. from a neighbor reporting a fire at 4629 Kristen Lane, near Harmon Avenue. When firefighters arrived, three of four residents were inside frantically searching for their pets as the flames spread from the front porch to the walls and into the attic, Clark County Fire Department spokesman John Steinbeck said.

Firefighters escorted the residents from the smoke-filled home and rescued eight cats and three dogs. They could not save two cats, which died in the fire, Steinbeck said.

Fire crews then extinguished the flames, Steinbeck said.

No people were injured in the blaze. The fire caused about $60,000 damage, Steinbeck said.

Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
