Man gets prison for baseball bat attack at county jail

A 25-year-old diagnosed schizophrenic has been sentenced to three to 10 years in prison for attacking guards at a Las Vegas jail with a baseball bat last September.

Michael Marcel Law told Clark County District Court Judge Carolyn Ellsworth on Monday that he didn't think he hit anyone in the Sept. 11 attack at the Clark County Detention Center.

Law's public defender, Sonny Bonaventure, says Law is a diagnosed schizophrenic who was off his medication and wasn't thinking straight when he armed himself with a bat and a knife and went to the jail.

Law later told police he was upset about how police handled a complaint that he'd been robbed.

Law pleaded guilty Jan. 7 to battery with a deadly weapon in a plea deal that avoided trial.
