The plan to raffle the orphaned pups by the Animal Foundation is opportunist and abhorrent.
It puts the interests of the foundation for fundraising ahead of the welfare of the dogs and effectively excludes a whole class of people who cannot afford to pony up $250 on the off chance of winning a pup.
It seems to me that an open raffle without an upfront fee would enable more people to participate and give everyone an equal shot.
Raffle winners would then pay an appropriate fee for foundation costs after being approved as acceptable owners.
It’s the fair thing to do.
