I am in the medical field in Nevada and work with patients who are mentally ill every day. I am appalled by the decisions made by our state lawmakers and governor complaining of tight budgets and refusing to help our most vulnerable members of society.
What do people think happens to patients with dementia and Alzheimer’s? Unless we take action, the problem will continue to rise, and so will crime rates.
I can just imagine how people in need feel when we put them in jail when they are mentally ill and hungry and need medical care.
It’s beyond me how our state can make a decision to treat the mentally ill this way. Nevada has the funds — it just needs to spend them the right way. I had hope that this city would eventually wake up and help. Unfortunately, it appears we are failing Nevadans in need of medical assistance.
