Man shot, killed by SWAT team near Jean

SWAT officers shot a man just outside of Jean today after he reportedly pointed a gun at several people.

Around 9 a.m., a group from a local skydiving company traveled to a drop zone 4 miles south of Jean to clear it before a trip. When they arrived, they found an RV in the drop zone. They attempted to contact the owner of the RV, and a man inside came out and pointed a gun at the group and threatened to shoot them, according to Metro Capt. Matt McCarthy.

The group called police. Metro officers arrived and talked to the man in the RV through a bullhorn for about 20 minutes, after which he pointed a rifle at the officers from inside the RV.

A SWAT team was called to assist, and around 11:30 a.m., the man came out of the RV and pointed his gun at SWAT officers, who shot and killed him, McCarthy said.

Interstate 15 was closed to northbound and southbound traffic at Jean from 11:15 to 11:32 a.m.
